About Us
Maahad Tahfiz Al-Quran Abu Bakar was founded in 2016 by Al-Fadhil Ustaz Mohd Hanif bin Hasan Al-Hafiz. Starting in rented premises, MATAB now operates on its own campus on waqf land in Kubang Gendang, Pasir Mas.

1.15 hectares of land in Kubang Gendang is endowed for Islamic education.
2014
Work starts on a three-storey building on the endowed land.
2016
The first memorisation classes begin in rented premises on Jalan Ismail Petra, Tanah Merah.
2017
The three-storey building is completed, with capacity for 140 students.
Today
100 boys in Kubang Gendang and 70 girls at MATAB Lilbanat, Tanah Merah, pursue Quranic and academic studies with us.

An integrated curriculum balancing Quran memorisation and mainstream academics.
Memorisation of up to 30 juz with core emphasis on correct recitation and quality.
Academic subjects following the KPM syllabus up to SPM and Islamic studies taught alongside hafazan.
Bilingual guidance supporting comprehension of religious texts and communication skills.
Annual camp building discipline, leadership and resilience outside the classroom.
Sports and martial arts for physical fitness, including 15 taekwondo medals won in 2026.

Admissions for the 2027 session are open. We welcome parents who would like to get to know MATAB more closely.
2027 session
The monthly fee covers tuition (Quran, academics and Islamic studies) and hostel costs (meals, laundry, utilities and administration).

Yes. Boys study at the Kubang Gendang campus in Pasir Mas. Girls study at MATAB Lilbanat on Jalan Ismail Petra, Tanah Merah.
The registration fee is RM1,000 and the monthly fee is RM470, covering tuition and hostel. Tuition covers Quran classes, academics and Islamic studies. Hostel costs cover meals, laundry, utilities and administration.
Full-time students are accepted at 11 to 13 years of age. Admissions for the 2027 session are open until December 2026.
Yes. The boys' hostel is at the Kubang Gendang campus in Pasir Mas, and the girls' hostel is at MATAB Lilbanat in Tanah Merah. Meals and laundry are included in the monthly fee.
Students memorise the Quran up to 30 juz with correct pronunciation, and follow academic lessons on the KPM syllabus up to SPM, alongside Islamic studies, Arabic and English.
